iOS 4 Final Release Available For iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G And iPod Touch 3G, 2G
Finally Apple has released iOS 4 for public, following a GM release which was limited only to developers. This version of iOS 4, being of the same build as GM (8A293), supports the soon to be released iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 2G. The iPad version is expected to be released sometime later.
Available as a free download for all, iOS 4 brings in some much-wanted features to iPhone and iPod Touch, including multi-tasking, bluetooth keyboard tethering, organizing apps into folders, iBooks camera zoom, create custom playlists, autofocus for video recording, basic image editing, and so on.
With iOS 4, you no longer need to jailbreak your iPhone just to get multitasking using apps such as ProSwitcher. If you want to jailbreak iOS 4 using redsn0w, then make sure you select the enable multitasking option. For unlockers, we suggest you stay away from iOS 4, which has a baseband update that results in permanent loss of your unlock.
Upgrading your iPhone to iOS 4 is pretty straightforward; simply connect your device to your Computer using iTunes and select your iPhone under the Devices list. Then click ‘Check for update’ in the iPhone summary pane, and you will be asked to download and install the new firmware.

Mex, where it says restore on iTunes, press (shift+right click restore at the same time) it will then bring you to the folder then u need to select it then it will restore it to iOS4

go onto itunes and hold shift ( might be ctrl or command not sure) and click restre then a box will pop up just select it

this really sucks i’ve been trying to use the redsnow to jailbreak the os4 but keep on getting that “unable to reconize…” i have done everything that was told by many people need serious help. my phone is not usable for over a day already … need help asa please
yo if you still cannot get your phone on then download a program called recboot and it will exit the recovery mode for you

I downloaded the iOs 4.0.1 from two diferent places to my desktop and when I open Redsn0w 9.5 Beta and ask me to browse the iPhone1,2_4.0.1_8A306_Restore I do but the file is empty, maybe I am missing something here, anyone can help me on that, thanks

Hi, I have a 3GS with software version 3.1.3. Can you tell me how I can get version 4.0.1 now? Because when I open up Itunes now, it only has the option of updating to the 4.0.2 and I don’t want that since I will want to jailbreak it.
I am having the same trouble as some of the others… no .ipsw files included in the download…
I think you have to go into the zip file, extract it, and change the file extension (eg: .exe,.jpeg,etc.) of the file contained within the original zip folder to .ipsw .

First when you download this files here, you have to make some changes on the end. when saving, you have to click on the scrollmeny and choose all files, then make: .ipsw after the name. Then you will have a working file.
just replace .zip file extension with .ipsw
I got ios4.1, used redsn0w with ios4. it goes thru the jailbreak process and it restarts, but the thing is that the Phone feature of the iPhone is gone. Every other icon is there including cydia but no phone. what could be the problem?
